3 Enterprise Benefits of Having a Cloud Data Warehouse
On January 2, 2023 by Anne WilliamsAs a business, data storage is a fundamental requirement, and with the increasing amount of data generated daily, a cloud data warehouse provides the best storage solution.
Cloud data warehouses can be viewed as a centralized repository for data residing in the cloud. These data warehouses leverage the cloud’s flexibility, adaptability, and scalability to give companies a competitive advantage.
With the advantages cloud data warehouses offer, many organizations are incorporating them into their business intelligence and data analytics programs. Let’s have a look at some of these advantages.
Increased Security
It was generally believed that on-premises data warehouses were more secure than cloud-based data warehouses. However, it is becoming increasingly evident that cloud data is more secure and less expensive to maintain. Several features ensure security in cloud data warehouses, including encrypted storage of any sensitive information in transit or at rest, role-based access controls, and auditing tools to ensure that no unauthorized individuals have access to confidential data.
Different cloud data warehouses provide data security in different ways. For example, when comparing Redshift vs Snowflake, Redshift includes a sign-in credential system, Access Management capabilities, column-level access control, SSL connections, and cluster encryption to keep client and cluster connections secure. You can also encrypt your data while uploading using client-side or server-side encryption to ensure its security.
Snowflake provides some of the same security features as Redshift. It allows you to administer user identities and groups using SCIM. Key Pair Authentication, OAuth, and Multi-factor authentication are some of the features available for user authentication. Data stored on the platform is encrypted using AES-256 encryption, which is periodically rekeyed. Additionally, Redshift provides a variety of compliance validations, including HIPAA, HITRUST CSF, FedRAMP Moderate, PCI DSS, and IRAP Protected compliance.
Enhanced Disaster Recovery
On-premises data warehouse disaster recovery is expensive and risky. A backup data center must be prepared with duplicate data if an issue occurs.
Creating a backup data center involves several expenses, including acquiring real estate to house servers, purchasing sufficient server capacity, and hiring management and security staff.
A cloud data warehouse does not require physical assets for disaster recovery. Instead, most cloud data warehouses support asynchronous duplication of data and perform regular backups and snapshots. The duplicate data is stored across multiple nodes, so it is always accessible without interfering with work in progress. Taking the example of a cloud storage service, Amazon S3 provides cross-region replication. Cross-region replication asynchronously replicates S3 data across other AWS regions to retrieve it in the event of a disaster.
Better Integration
Companies use several different sources of data for business intelligence and analytics. This data is not only available in various formats, but it is also structured and presented in various ways, which makes integrating it difficult. Without a robust integration method, multi-touchpoint data may become trapped in silos, resulting in lost value and diminished analysis quality.
The majority of cloud data warehouses currently available can assist you in overcoming this obstacle in a relatively straightforward manner.
Cloud data warehouses house data coming from multiple sources, and by using cloud data integration solutions, numerous cloud platforms can be integrated. Through this, the organization’s operations and the markets in which it operates will become much more holistic. Moreover, there are some benefits to integrating some cloud data warehouses. For instance, Salesforce SharePoint integration reduces workload, saves time, and enhances document management. Additionally, SharePoint supports automatic versioning of Salesforce documents. This allows your team to have improved control over the documenting process.
Migrating To Cloud Data Warehouses – A Necessity for Today’s Businesses
Cloud-based DWH may give your organization a competitive advantage and shorten your time-to-market.
By migrating to the cloud, you can gain a holistic view of everything from supply chain bottlenecks to marketing strategy effectiveness. This will enable you to make better business decisions. Integrating a cloud data warehouse into your modernization strategy can achieve better query performance and more productive data source integrations.
